Accelerated Reader Program

The Accelerated Reader program is an integral part of reading at Greenfield School.  In grades 2-8, students are encouraged to read with reading incentives and Accelerated Reading points.  Each year, prizes are awarded to students from each grade who earn the most Accelerated Reader points.

In grades 7-8, after the spelling test on Fridays, students use the rest of the remaining class time for silent AR reading.  Students are required to read 2 AR books per six weeks grading period.
Their selection is based on teacher approval.   Their AR scores, reader response log, and participation on Fridays in the program comprise 10% of the overall reading grade.

Each year, the top ten point-earners in Junior High are awarded certificates and various prizes, with the top point earner receiving a cash award or a savings bond for his/her achievement.

BETA Club

The National Beta Club, a student-centered organization, continually develops and nurtures individuals by providing opportunities and experiences enabling them to demonstrate the ideas of character, achievement, service and leadership in a global community.

As well, Beta Club is a service organization, so two service projects are required a year.  We will discuss these projects at our first parent meeting after we determine grade eligibility.

Only members, who are in good standing with the club, will be eligible for state convention attendance.  We will check report cards the first six weeks.  If you are on probation this first six weeks, you will not be eligible to attend convention.

Community service is part of our national constitution;  therefore, twelve hours of community service must be completed by the end of March.  Convention is held in Nashville in the spring at the Opryland Hotel.  This year our convention dates are April 9-11.  Our students will compete in individual competitions at the convention.
